For many makeup fanatics, a good lipstick is ESSENTIAL. However, it can generally be the most difficult cosmetic to get right. Standing amongst the pink, orange and peachy hues of a makeup aisle, it’s hard to know where to begin. Even without the huge variation in choice knowing how to choose your perfect lipstick colour is no easy task – but fortunately for you we thought we’d share our top tips today…
When it comes to lipstick, if you wear a colour you don’t like you just won’t feel right. Lipstick choice is so personal, so we need to get it right to look and feel our best!
The first step when deciding how to choose your perfect lipstick colour is working out your skin tone.
The main skin tone categories are:
1. Fair or Light
2. Medium
3. Olive
4. Dark or Deep
Your skin tone is the main determiner of which lipstick is perfect for you.
If you have a fair or light skin tone…
… light and bright colours are your perfect match! Try experimenting with light pinks or peachy shades to see what works for you.
If you have a medium skin tone…
… a classic red or orange lip will see you to your spot as star of the show. You could also consider a pink tone with medium skin, but go for a slightly darker shade if there is one available.
If you have an olive skin tone…
… slightly deeper colours are your style. You don’t want to go for the darkest of the selection, but berry shades or deep reds are a fail safe match.
Finally, if you have a dark or deep skin tone…
… dark reds or dark browns will have you looking your best!
If you’re still unsure on the perfect fit for you, try searching for a lipstick colour wheel. There you can see a selection of shades matched up to your skin tone.
As easy as it is to select your perfect lipstick colour when you know your skin tone, never overlook personal preference! If you LOVE a particular shade, then you should absolutely rock it every day. You have the power to become your own makeup artist.
