The Kardashian-Jenner clan has been called “the biggest influencing power force behind any concept that happens on social media,” with more than half a billion social media followers between all of them there is no doubt that The Kardashian Effect is well and truly underway.

Love or hate them, the Kardashians are undeniably influencing girls of all ages whether they like it or not. Be it with their ever changing makeup looks, cosmetic surgery procedures or booming beauty business. But is this a good thing?

So how do you contour like Kim Kardashian?

One one side of the coin, Kim and the clan are beauty icon’s. Their looks cause the internet to go viral, They set trends and lead inspiration for many fashion and beauty avatars…  Their portrayal of fashionista looks and selfies for the “gram” have sent makeup techniques such as contouring viral. As a result, The beauty industry alone has risen significantly over the past 5 years and makeup artists have grown to stardom from a simple repost via one of the Kardashian sisters, this then following suit with local influencers and celebs alike. They have put makeup on the map and make cosmetic procedures appear much more attainable and almost a standard to be expected.

Are the Kardshians actually creating an unrealistic expectation of what women should look like?

The ages of girls following them on social media are as young as 12 and made to feel inadequate as they don’t look like a Kardashian or other Instagram celebs

Kylie Jenner, the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, is a prime example of how insecurities can build leaving you feeling like surgery is the only answer. At 15 years old she began having her lips filled to “feel less insecure” after having spent 2 years insisting she just got really good at over lining… okay, Kylie. This quickly turned out to have influenced millions of people to then resort to lip fillers to mimic Kylie’s look and also landed Jenner a name for herself as the lip queen with her own range of ‘Lip Kits’ which has now expanded into a multi million dollar cosmetics company.

Whichever way you look at it the Kardashians are definitely having an Effect! …
