Have you finally made the step to ensuring your future is within reach by signing up to your MUA training course? Perhaps you’re completely new to the makeup world, or you’ve been a beauty lover for years. However long you’ve been in the industry, we’ve got one small tip for your journey today. The importance of receiving feedback when studying to be an MUA is something you shouldn’t ever overlook!

So… what is it?

Constructive feedback is something that is vital for your development, whatever career pathway you’ve chosen to take. When given properly, it can reinforce all the positive things about your work whilst giving you some small tips on how to make it even better! What’s not to love.

As part of your makeup course, it is likely that you will have to both give and receive constructive feedback alongside your course mates.

Its purpose is to provide supportive comments and suggestions to individualsIt helps identify solutions to areas of weakness or highlights aspects where there is room for improvement. It comes hand in hand with positive intentions and is a supportive communication tool when it comes to your work.

In life, many of us see feedback as a scary thing. Hearing someones thoughts on your work can sometimes feel too personal or send us a step back on the journey. Whether you are scared that feedback will knock your confidence, or you just don’t feel ready to share your work yet, it’s time to embrace your TALENT and step out from the shadows. Even if feedback feels like a step back, we promise you it will always help you move in the direction of your dreams.

When it comes to feedback, it’s important to remember…

Feedback it is NEVER meant as an insult. If someone is insulting you and your work – that’s not feedback and is in no way productive. In the same way that you wouldn’t expect someone to do that to you, it means you need to be meaningful in your feedback to others.

The underlying trend when it comes to feedback is that, despite what some people may think, it’s meant to be a positive thing! Take each piece and treasure it. It will help you become the best makeup artist you can possibly be.

Why it’s vital on your MUA journey…

Your training provides a safe space for you to grow!

When you’re on your training course, you have a safe space to make mistakes. The only difference between training and real life is, if you slip up or get something wrong, you aren’t faced with an upset client and a bad mark on your review page. This is why it’s the perfect place to experiment, try new things, and listen to those around you! They will all have different thoughts on what you create, and might even be able to offer you more advice on how to make it better.

Don’t forget to ask your tutor for their opinion too. They’ll have come from an experienced background, with a range of ideas and suggestions to offer your way.

Whether you agree or disagree with the feedback you’ve received, really take the time to process it. Even if you don’t completely agree, there might be aspects of it that you can use to better your practice.

Utilising feedback during your training is great because mistakes don’t matter. And making mistakes provides the perfect setting for us to grow!

We can’t wait to see all the amazing things you achieve, and never hesitate to ask for feedback as we promise you it will help you along the way.
